HISTORY ASPECTS: The Grumman F-14A Tomcat was developed as a long-range fleet defense interceptor for the U.S. Navy, designed to protect carrier battle groups from incoming threats such as bombers and anti-ship missiles. Featuring variable-sweep wings, powerful Pratt & Whitney TF30 engines, and the advanced AWG-9 radar system, the F-14A could detect and engage multiple targets at long range using the AIM-54 Phoenix missile.
